Water on the dash, a damp headliner, wind noise or a whistle at highway speed usually means the seal around your glass has failed. Reyes Glass Group finds the leak and reseals the windshield, back glass or door glass at your home or work, across California and Texas.
Signs your windshield seal is leaking
- Water drips from the top corners, the A-pillars or behind the dash after rain or a car wash
- Wet carpet, a musty smell or fog that won’t clear
- Wind noise or whistling that gets louder with speed
- Loose or lifting molding around the glass
- Rust bubbling near the edge of the windshield
Why windshields leak
Windshields are bonded to the frame with urethane adhesive. A leak usually means a gap in that bond, often from a past installation that didn’t get a full bead, rust on the pinch weld, a body repair, or the glass shifting. Door and back glass can also leak when the weatherstrip or run channel wears out.
Reseal or replace?
If the glass is in good shape and the gap is small, we can often seal it with urethane from the outside. If the bond has failed along a long section, the frame has rust, or the glass is also cracked, the right fix is to remove the glass, clean and treat the frame, lay a full new urethane bead and set the glass again. That’s a windshield replacement, and we tell you which one you need before we start.

When a reseal isn’t enough, we remove the glass, prep the frame and set it on a fresh, continuous bead of urethane. The tape holds it in place while the adhesive cures.

How we find the leak
We check the molding and the bond line around the glass, look for rust and gaps at the pinch weld, and water-test the area to find exactly where it gets in. Then we fix that spot instead of guessing.
After the repair
Urethane needs time to cure. We’ll tell you how long to wait before driving and before a car wash, and it’s best to leave a window cracked slightly for the first day. If water still gets in, call us.
